The Kachai Lemon juice-
unique and delicious as nature intended, more refreshing, more healthy, naturally
grown and chemical free.
Kachai Lemon is commercially grown in Kachai Area Ukhrul district, Manipur.
Kachai lemon is commonly grown in the fertile soil, depending on natural
resources, decomposed materials etc, without any inorganic input in consultant
with ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal. |
| The Kachai village is located
at extreme west in Ukhrul District, boundary with Senapati dist, Manipur.
The village is about 140 kms away from Imphal and 50 kms from Ukhrul District
Headquaters. It is the highest lemon producer village in Manipur state.
The climate of Kacha Area
is subtropical, characterized by coolness and extreme humidity. The mean
anual temperature ranges from 19° to 21°C and rainfall varies
from 1,300 to 1,500 mm. Water is the scarcest commodity during winter
months in hill region. But is is surprised to say that plants get life
saving water mainly through fog in winter, as entire Kachai area remained
covered by thick fog upto 10 am in the morning in winter.
The Ukhrul district produces 5737 MT lemon in 840 ha anually. As per information
from Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Govt. of Manipur.

The bearing plants of Kachai Lemon
look like flowering trees during harvesting time, simply beautiful, coulourful
and attractive to everyone.
The main fruiting time starts from November and continues till April. Fruits
are available through out the year. It is interesting that the unplucked
fruits remain on the tree and the fruits change its colour in next fruiting
season(green to yellow).
The uniqueness and speciality of Kachai Lemon is that it is a rich
source of Ascorbic Acid, containing 45-51 mg/100ml juice.
The juice content is 36-56 ml per fruit. |
The District level Kachai Lemon
festival is celebrated in the month of January every year with great favour
by all the people in Manipur.
