New daily launched in Ukhrul

A new bi-lingual daily newspaper The Shirui Lily Times has started to hit the stands in Ukhrul district headquarter since August 16, 2010.

Owned and published by Shimreingam A. Shatsang, The Shirui Lily Times is jointly edited by the publisher himself and another dynamic editor Ngakuimi A. Shatsang. On the reason behind launching a daily in Ukhrul, owner ***** editor Shimreingam taking into consideration the vast gap between our 'news-starved' society and the 'ever progressing' global media upsurge, an immediate need was felt by all to bridge this huge gap.

"We, as evolving society can never afford to isolate ourselves from the events taking shape in the land and the rest of world."

"This endeavor is sincerely an attempt to connect ourselves with the constant changes of the global village".

The Shirui Lily Times wishes everyone to share their comments, feedbacks and suggestions through their email-address (shiruililytimes@yahoo.com).

News: Myanmar’s rice relieves border villagers in Ukhrul in times of food scarcity

Ukhrul/Tangkhul news

Ukhrul, September 02: For border villagers in Ukhrul, the neighbouring Myanmar’s rice is relished not only for its delicacy but is an alternative source in time of food scarcity, the Nagaland Post reported Thursday.
Tilli, a variety of rice grown in the expansive Kabaw valley of Myanmar, has found a favour among border villagers for its flavour and affordability. The villages under Kamjong sub-division hit hard by drought and poor harvest last year has upped its consumption.

News: Muivah's visit to Somdal unlikely

Ukhrul/Tangkhul news

New Delhi, August 10 2010: Clarifying its stand on the NSCN (I-M) general secretary Th Muivah's bid to visit his native village, the Centre said that the visit can be facilitated only in consultation with the Government of Manipur. Muivah's desire to visit Somdal, his native village is unlikely to materialise any time soon, if the Centre's stand on the issue is any indication. Muivah made abortive attempts to visit his native village in April in the face of stiff opposition from the State Government, triggering a crisis. The economic blockade of Manipur in Nagaland that lasted for over 70 days escalated the tensions prompting the Centre to airlift essential supplies.

News: Ukhrul town road reduced to slush and mud

Ukhrul/Tangkhul news

Ukhrul, July 2010: For the people of Ukhrul , the slush and mud that pass off as the road running through the heart of the town is just another inconveniences which they have to get used to for the last many years. Come June, July or August and one will experience the same old problem though the town happens to have the only one way traffic that pass the whole stretch at a go. Be it a commuter or a pedestrian, one is sure to be welcomed by mud and slush from the water collected in the pot holes. The problem is not only about shortage of fund but also about the same old story of the inability to utilize the fund earmarked to develop and repair the road in a sincere manner with quality control.
