DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (EMN): A memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister by ‘Separate Hill Areas Administration Committee’ seeking a separate hill areas administration out of the existing state of Manipur.
The representation, signed by the committee’s convenor P Ashuli Arche and secretary RL Nelson, on behalf of the Hill Tribal People of Manipur, pointed out that the five hill districts of Manipur – Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul - are contiguous chunks of hill Areas in Manipur. It said these Hill Areas have been inhabited by Hill Tribal People since time immemorial who were never been subject to any King of the Meitei Kingdom.
Moreover, it pointed out that the ‘Anthropology of Manipur clearly defines that Hill Tribal People and Meiteis in the State of Manipur are distinctively and identically different from each other especially in culture and traditional practices’.
