Should Nagas stop eating smoked meat?

Dr Sao Tunyi
Nagaland has the highest incidence rate of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in India. Though mouth cancers are common in India, NPC is rare except among the specific ethnic groups like the Nagas.
The incidence rate of 4.3 per 1, 00,000 population in Nagaland falls under the intermediate category while the highest incidence rates are found in southern China (10-20 in males and 5-10 in females). In most parts of the world, the incidence is less than 1 per 1, 00,000 population.

Facebook Ends IE6 Support, and You Should Too
by: admin
2010-08-26 20:44:07

By Tony Bradley at PC World
Facebook announced that it is ending support for Internet Explorer 6. Granted, it is only pulling the plug on IE6 in its chat function, but the move by Facebook is the latest effort to shift away from the outdated browser that refuses to die. Facebook's decision illustrates once again why organizations that still rely on IE6 should consider upgrading (finally).

A Facebook Blog post describes the issue behind the decision "Many of you have told us that sometimes your Chat session comes and goes or even stops completely. We're working hard to end those interruptions so that your experience is stable and consistent."

NEW DELHI, AUG 31 (IANS):Home Minister P. Chidambaram Tuesday admitted that Delhi government has violated guidelines in the diversion of plan funds for scheduled castes and tribes to finance projects for Commonwealth Games.
“In our view of the guidelines of 2006, these appear to be wrong,” Chidambaram said in Rajya Sabha, during a discussion on the alleged diversion of funds from scheduled castes and tribes for the Commonwealth Games. US church to burn Quran on Sept 11
by: admin3
2010-07-31 17:26:53

NEW YORK, JUL 31 (IANS):A church in Florida, US, is reportedly planning to host an “International Burn a Quran Day” on the anniversary of the Sep 11, 2001, terror attack, a move that has been condemned by many Christians and Muslims. The Dove World Outreach Centre in Gainesville, Florida, would host the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam, which it calls a “deceptive religion” and “of the devil”.
The church is promoting the event on its website and Facebook page and has invited Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at its premises from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. “We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it’s causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times,” church pastor Terry Jones was quoted as saying by the CNN.

New daily launched in Ukhrul

A new bi-lingual daily newspaper The Shirui Lily Times has started to hit the stands in Ukhrul district headquarter since August 16, 2010.

Owned and published by Shimreingam A. Shatsang, The Shirui Lily Times is jointly edited by the publisher himself and another dynamic editor Ngakuimi A. Shatsang. On the reason behind launching a daily in Ukhrul, owner ***** editor Shimreingam taking into consideration the vast gap between our 'news-starved' society and the 'ever progressing' global media upsurge, an immediate need was felt by all to bridge this huge gap.

"We, as evolving society can never afford to isolate ourselves from the events taking shape in the land and the rest of world."

"This endeavor is sincerely an attempt to connect ourselves with the constant changes of the global village".

The Shirui Lily Times wishes everyone to share their comments, feedbacks and suggestions through their email-address (shiruililytimes@yahoo.com).
